01 / The platform

Examine a decision.
Understand the tradeoffs.

Hermod’s decision engineering platform makes objectives, evidence, constraints, alternatives, and tradeoffs explicit. It helps people examine the basis for a choice, challenge its criteria, and reconsider it when circumstances change.

02 / A common foundation

Different decisions.
Shared relationships.

Decision engineering is our application of decision theory to practical choices. It includes strategic thinking and questions from game theory, alongside everyday operational and technical decisions.

Across these settings, people need to understand their options, the evidence behind them, and the conditions that matter.

The platform provides a reusable foundation for representing those relationships and tracing the consequences of change. It keeps a central question open to examination: What counts as an improvement, and for whom?

Hermod.gg applies that foundation to team strategy. Decision Lab brings it to decisions across use cases, from individual reviews to work involving analysts, teams, and organizations. Each application provides its own models, interfaces, and workflows.

Shared foundation: explicit objectives, evidence, constraints, alternatives, tradeoffs, and consequences of change.

Application-specific: what the concepts mean, which rules apply, and how people work with them.

03 / Decisions in everyday work

A useful next step
starts with a clearer question.

Decision engineering applies wherever a choice needs support. These questions illustrate its scope; they are not additional applications.

Is there enough evidence to act?

Is there enough evidence to approve a file download under specific conditions? Which test should we run next to resolve an uncertainty?

Connect the evidence to the decision it supports.

Which alternative serves the objective?

Should we repair a piece of equipment or replace it? Should we adjust airflow in a growing space or collect more sensor data first?

Compare action, cost, constraints, and uncertainty.

Whose work gets better?

Does a proposed procedure change actually improve someone’s work? Make the criteria visible, including who benefits and who takes on additional effort.

Give people a basis for challenging the comparison.

04 / See the connection

The same questions.
Different settings.

These are two applications of a shared reasoning structure. Each has its own features and workflow.

How shared decision questions apply in Hermod.gg and Decision Lab
Shared question Hermod.gg Decision Lab
What are we trying to accomplish? Understand what a team composition needs to achieve. Define the objective, whose outcomes matter, and what a review needs to establish.
What would make one option better? Compare the capabilities and team roles a pick contributes to the intended strategy. Compare alternatives against explicit criteria, constraints, evidence, and tradeoffs.
What supports the choice? Examine conditions, allied support, and opponent interference. Examine assumptions, dependencies, and the scope of supporting evidence.
What changes when we choose differently? Reconsider contributions and exposures after replacing a pick. Reconsider affected claims, responsibilities, and follow-up work when a choice or its supporting evidence changes.

05 / Decision engineering in practice

Reasoning you can inspect.
Judgment you can exercise.

Decision engineering is the approach behind the platform. Strategic and game decisions fit within this broader scope; many everyday decisions involve no opponent at all.

Make the criteria inspectable.

State the objective, whose outcomes matter, and what would count as an improvement. Keep the supporting evidence and assumptions open to challenge.

Ask: better by which criteria, and for whom?

Preserve human judgment.

Compare alternatives against explicit criteria. People bring context, question the priorities, weigh tradeoffs, and decide what to do.

Ask: why this choice?

Keep conclusions revisable.

Return to the relationships behind a conclusion when a choice, condition, or observation changes.

Ask: what needs another look?

06 / Put it to work

Try the platform
on one useful decision.

Bring a choice you’re working through to Decision Lab. Define what matters, examine the evidence, and keep the assumptions behind your conclusion visible enough to revisit.

Try the Free personal version, now in public beta. Work through an individual review in your browser, create a basic report, and export your work to keep or import later. Hermod.gg offers another way to explore the same platform through team strategy.

We’re seeking pilots for the Analyst, Team, and Enterprise tiers, extending the work to reusable context, shared responsibilities, and organizational governance.
